A WINCHESTER secondary school made broadcasting history when it went on air live to digital radio listeners across south Hampshire.
Pupils from Kings' School used their own broadcasting licence and facilities during a one-hour programme.
Over the past few months Capital Radio and NTL Broadcast have given students the opportunity to use the area's digital network technology.
They were encouraged to create their own digital station called KARD (Kings on-Air RaDio) which culminated with their first live show called Kristmas KARD.
Any last minute nerves were quickly alleviated by Power FM's mid-morning presenter, Des Paul, who dropped by to add an extra professional touch. Jan Radnedge, head of media studies at Kings', said: "This has been a wonderful opportunity to do something really innovative in media studies.
"We've broadcast Internet-style pages, text messages and now a full-blown radio programme. Next term we'll start to take things a stage further and integrate these elements into a true multi-media environment."
