SOUTHAMPTON Football Club is set to honour its former president, Ted Bates. This month's friendly match against Bayern Munich is to be played for the inaugural Ted Bates Trophy. Local company Orchard Homes as the title sponsor.
Due to be staged at 8pm next Monday, the match against the German champions will honour Ted Bates who passed away in November.
Ted had some 66 years with the club as a player, coach, manager, chairman and president. That incredible record earned him the MBE and the freedom of the city.
Saints chairman Rupert Lowe said the club was looking forward to playing such a massive name in European football and said he was delighted that Orchard Homes is to sponsor such a prestigious match.
Orchard Homes, headed by life-long Saints supporter Ken Lake, is a key player in the south's residential market and Mr Lake said he was delighted to be involved in the Bayern Munich game.
Tickets for the Ted Bates Trophy are on sale now and cost £10 for adults, £5 for seniors and £1 for children under the age of 13.
