LODDON Valley Lions have recently had their innovative "Message in a Bottle" scheme launched by the mayor, Cllr Gerry Traynor.

The scheme will be administered by local Lions clubs and will be free to users. Details will be available at doctors' surgeries, clinics and pharmacies as well as lunch clubs, day centres and Age Concern outlets, all of which will be a source for the bottles themselves.

The basic objective of the scheme is to place important information, in a standard format, in a purpose-marked bottle in a standard location, such as a domestic fridge, in the homes of people living alone.

In the event of an accident, this information can be readily located by emergency services or others attending the scene.

The scheme has been endorsed by the ambulance service, police, fire service, First Responders, medical practitioners and dispensing chemists.

Although the scheme is free to users, financial support is required to assist the participating Lions clubs in maintaining what will be an ongoing commitment.

For further information, contact D Side on 01256 323133, B Morgan on 01256 358008 or K Williamson on 0118 9815698.

TRAVEL tokens: These will be available on February 5, from 9.30am to 3pm, at the swimming pool, on February 6, from 9am to 3pm, at the Ambassador Club, and February 11, from 9am to noon, on The Green.
