Team Solent's senior men look to be on their way up to Division 1 of the Hampshire Cross-Country League.

They now sit second overall thanks to the efforts of Colin Dixon (1st), Neil Phillips (2nd), Owen Jones (13th), Tim Wright (40th) and Mike Gregory (91st) at Saturday's fourth fixture of the season at Overton.

Not to be outdone, Solent's ladies won the women's race, squeezing three athletes into the top seven. Georgie Parnell led the way in fourth, Helen Zenner was fifth and under-20 runner Heather Buckingham seventh. They were supported by Fiona Cressey (21st), Claire Thorn (23rd) and Rachel Lewington (63rd).

The under-13 boys finished runners-up for the fourth time this season, spearheaded by third-placed Scott Legg, winner of the county championship title the previous week.

Chris Dennis was right behind in fourth, Jamie Knapp seventh, David Goodwin 16th and Matthew Slade 24th.

Russell North was the under-15 boys' runner-up with Chris Hamp 19th and, in the under-17 race, Alex Wall-Clarke was sixth, Adam Justice 15th and Jon Slade 19th.

In the under-15 girls' race Georgina Barton came 16th and Sinead O'Hara 23rd.

On Sunday the team were back in action at Pewsey Vale in the Wessex Cross-Country League.

Once again, the under-13 boys did coaches Bill Tindall and Peter Haynes proud by destroying the field and filling the first three places. Chris Dennis led the way to claim the title with two races to go, Legg was second and Knapp third. Matt Fowler (11th) and Aaron Bennett (16th) backed them up.
