BYELAWS: Dogs and horses on the Green sometimes come into conflict, as I witnessed on New Year's Eve.

Dog owners might like to know that, according to Byelaw Seven, "dogs must be kept under proper control and effectually restrained from causing annoyance to any person and from worrying or disturbing any animal".

Horses may be ridden on the common unless there are notices prohibiting or restricting riding.

The rider must ensure that they do not cause danger or annoyance to another person lawfully using the common (Byelaw 17-19).

BOTTLE bank: It has been brought to my attention that, since the bottle bank has been relocated to the car park next to the White Hart, it has caused disruption to residents in that area.

A resident of Mill Close says: "I urge those parishioners who have been affected by the move of the bottle bank to write to the parish council."

I see that the shoe bank is still at the old site and therefore occupying car park spaces.

PETITION: Along with other villages, Sherfield Village Hall management committee is anxious to encourage the new fund created from the Community and New Opportunities Fund to set up a long-term nationwide capital grants programme for village and community halls.

Our village hall is a valuable amenity, but the cost of essential maintenance and improvements is increasing.

Please support your village hall and sign the petition from Community Action Hampshire. These can be found in all the village outlets - post office, The Shop, Sherdons, the pubs, Hair Affair and at the village hall.

Hurry please - the petition needs to be signed before the deadline at the end of this month.
