WANTED: Eastleigh people who opened their homes to young evacuees from Gosport during the Second World War.
The Old Gosportians (Eastleigh) Association, formed by the former schoolchildren who were evacuated from Gospor,t is to celebrate two red letter dates and wants to contact as many of the hosts as possible.
Children were evacuated to the "safety" of Eastleigh because Gosport was deemed to be a military target.
They were billeted with families and attended North End School in what is now the Hampshire Fire Service headquarters in Leigh Road.
Many of the evacuees have kept in touch and formed the association which will be celebrating during this year, the 65th anniversary of the evacuation and the diamond jubilee of the return to Gosport.
Secretary Jack Chantler said: "We hope to get in touch with as many of the good people of Eastleigh that put us up.
"I would be grateful if any of the hosts that are still around or their children could contact me."
Mr Chantler can be contacted by telephone on 023 9237 1120, on e-mail at jackchantler@tesco.net, or by post at 21 Jasmond Road, Cosham, Portsmouth PO6 2SY.
