cricket fan Jamie Bennett came face to face with his idol David Gower when he presented Wessex Heartbeat with a cheque for £10,000 in memory of his late brother Toby.
Toby Bennett, who was only eight, collapsed and died while playing football 14 months ago. It was later discovered that a weakness in his heart had caused his death.
The Bennett family, including dad Mark and mum Emma, from Poole in Dorset, were at the Rose Bowl in West End, near Southampton, to present the cheque to the former Hampshire and England captain, who is a patron of Wessex Heartbeat.
The money was raised last summer when the Bennett family organised a charity cricket match in memory of Toby.
Heartbeat's events manager Sara-Jane Tyrrell said: "I've been in events management for more than ten years and I know how hard it is to raise that sort of money. For one family and their friends to raise this amount is unprecedented."
