THE cost of using Test Valley Borough Council football pitches, cricket grounds and tennis courts is set to rise.
The increases of 20 per cent with effect from April, were voted through at Test Valley Borough Council's last executive meeting.
Even concessions for the under 16s are due to rise by the same amount.
Liberal Democrat executive member Cllr Mark Cooper wanted to limit the rise to an inflation figure only.
He said: "Residents are always worried about the lack of facilities for young people and a 20 per cent increase in pitch and tennis court fees is bound to discourage some users, especially young with limited financial resources."
The additional charges, which apply to all of Test Valley's sports grounds and Romsey Sports Centre, are expected to raise an additional £10,000 in a full year.
The rise is subject to ratification by full council in February.
