THE Lower Lake at Broadlands was the place to be in the first round of the Reelcare Winter Series.
It was action all the way with half of the field weighing in more than 20lb and close to 50lb to frame - while both Hordle and Witherington proved difficult.
Poingdestres' Dave Pool took 12 bream and six carp, mainly on the waggler and pellet from peg 24, to take a massive 76lb to the scales and secure victory, a tremendous weight for the time of the year.
Cormorants Team Sillybaits' Richie Yeo finished second off the next peg with four carp and six bream for 55lb 6oz on the waggler, with Kings Toyota skipper Garry Naylor third with nine carp for 54lb 15oz.
Others R Hayward (Homestores Select) 49lb 4oz, M Illingworth (Homestores Select) 38lb 9oz, R Kajko (cormorants) 32lb 6oz.
In the Witherington Farm heat on Cottage Lake and Sellwood, Cottage Lake produced the top five weights with Dynamite Baits' Simon Hambidge taking carp to 4lb on the pole from peg six to weigh in 37lb for a comfortable victory.
Terry Sargent (Cormorants) finished second with 27lb 12oz (all carp) on the method feeder, with Nathan Fox (Dorset Raiders) third with 26lb.
Others: M Keynes (Christchurch) 25lb 4oz, B James (Christchurch) 14lb 7oz.
In the Hordle heat, Cormorants' Garry Wright on Bobs Lake took seven carp on the method feeder from the first caravan bank peg for 32lb 4oz to win easily. Eastleigh Mosellas' Bob Drew finished second with 19lb of roach and a carp for 23lb 8oz on the pole from behind the island, with Homestores Sensas' Graham Tappenden third with 23lb. Welsh disabled international Godfrey Edwards was fourth with 18lb 12oz.
Others: N Tappin (Cormorants) 17lb 8oz, P Stride (Cormorants) 17lb.
The TVAC Open on the Blackwater saw victory go to John Clark, who took 14lb 9oz of roach, dace and grayling from Nutsey on a mixture of pole and stick float to win easily. Kev Hatcher finished second with a mixed bag of 10lb 4oz, also from Nutsey, while Homestores Sensas' Graham Tappenden finished third with 9lb 15oz of dace from Ower.
Others: A Potter 8lb 8oz, A Palmer 7lb 9oz, J Smith 7lb 7oz.
The Pewsey Open on the Kennet and Avon canal proved a low-scoring affair with Thatcher's Garry O'Shea taking 6lb 13.5oz of small roach on bread punch and pole from Bristows Bridge to edge out Steve Long (Daiwa Gordon League), who took a 12oz skimmer plus roach on the same method also from Bristows Bridge for 6lb 13oz. Andy Ackers finished ounces behind with 6lb 10oz, with Mark Treasure fourth on 5lb 5oz.
Others: M Polland (Mosella) 5lb 3oz, B Polland (Daiwa Gordon League) 5lb.
The Waterfit Invitation Match on Hordle went to Kings Toyota skipper Garry Naylor, who fished pole at 175 metres, tight to the far bank on Canal Lake on corn over corn and pellet to land a succession of carp to 4lb and take 62lb to the scales.
Poingdestres' Pete Newman finished second with 44lb on the same tactics from the canal, with Eastleigh Mosellas' Bob Drew third with 42lb.
Others: M Maidment 41lb, G Tappenden (Homestores Sensas) 38lb 15oz, M Small 36lb 12oz.
The TVAC Calmore Trophy match on the River Blackwater went to Mick Small, who took 9lb 8oz of roach from the same peg at Nutsey that won the open, using a mixture of stick float and pole tactics.
Match secretary Cliff Carbis finished second with 8lb 7oz of small roach, also from Nutsey, with Alan Hillman third with 8lb 5oz of roach and dace from Ower.
Others: A Palmer 7lb, G Duncan 6lb 13oz, J Clemence 6lb 7oz.
