NEEDY widows in Africa certainly got the goat of youngsters at a Southampton school - so they decided to do something about it.
Pupils at Weston Park Junior School, in Weston Lane, Weston, spent weeks donating pennies left over from their tuck shop money and managed to collect just over £250.
The money was used by Christian Aid to buy 21 goats, which will now be sent to widows in Burundi, Africa, to improve their quality of life.
Year Four leader Jan Randall, who came up with the idea, said the money would make a huge difference to people on the other side of the world.
She said: "The goats produce milk to feed the women's children and then they fertilise the grass which produces a better quality crop for them to sell.
"Apparently, having one goat can make all the difference to their standard of living."
