One of the season's heaviest whiting has been caught from marks a couple of miles to the south of The Needles.
Roy Rolle from Dibden Purlieu is pictured above, with the specimen, which tipped the scales down to exactly 5lb.
Rolle, a labourer who works for Trants in the Fawley refinery, bagged the specimen fishing from the Lymington-based boat Tomkat, skippered by John Skeggs.
The cracking fish was among a number of quality whiting caught during the session.
Rolle used hokeyes baited with a slither of mackerel to tempt his prize fish, which sets a new personal best.
The pegged event is open to all anglers but strictly pre-book only - full details from Trevor Sutch (023 9220 1696).
Dogfish and pouting dominated the annual hangover match held at Abbotsbury, where Malcolm Stote from Lymington won A section with a 17lb bag of doggies to nudge out Dave Chidzoy (14lb 15oz) and Lee Cullen from Southampton (11lb 0.25oz).
Ben Assaritti was once again on good form to win B section with 9lb 11.50oz to nudge out Craig Prewer and Alan Jones, with 8lb 12oz and 5lb 13.50oz respectively.
The pool for the heaviest fish was collected by Alan Hunt with an 8.75oz dab, while Alan Jones collected the round fish pool with a 1lb 11.50oz specimen whiting.
Flounders supplied the action during the Stamshaw Lake AC hangover match held along their local shoreline where visiting angler John Linter came out on top with a brace of flatties nudging the three-pound mark, followed by Ina Golds, who was just a couple of ounces further adrift.
Six-year-old Luke Woods landed his first-ever flounder to win the final round of the ABU Garcia Wessex Junior Flounder League.
The youngster, who was certainly in a festive mood, used ragworm to tempt the flattie which weighed in at 14.75oz. While young Luke was all smiles on the night, ten-year-old Emily Fisk ran out overall winner of the series with 3lb 2.75oz.
Surprisingly enough, Emily's dad, Brian Fisk, who is a seasoned match angler, has drawn a complete blank in all eight rounds of the senior flounder league this time round.
Runner-up in the overall series was Natham Coward with 2lb 14.5oz, followed by Marcus Christopher (2lb 3.50oz), George Carter (1lb 15oz) and Ellis Cowler and Joe Poole, who both finished with 1lb 7.25oz.
The prize for the heaviest flounder throughout the series was won by Natham Coward with 1lb 9.50oz, while Joe Poole came second in the category with a 1lb 7.25oz flattie.
