VANDALS have left a £30,000 trail of destruction in their wake after they went on the rampage again at a Winchester golf club.

They descended on Hockley Golf Club in Twyford for the fourth time in a month, intent on causing as much damage as possible.

Police are keen to catch the thugs who keep returning to the course to storm across the greens in four-wheel drive vehicles.

Their latest visit took place only two days after their previous jaunt as reported in the Daily Echo.

The greens, tees, bunkers and fairways have all been severely damaged.

Lyn Dyer, club secretary, said: "It's mindless damage caused by 4X4 vehicles being driven on the course at night.

"There have been four separate occasions during December when damage has occurred, resulting in the demolition of two storm huts and the halfway house. Repair costs are expected to be in the region of £30,000 and will take several months to complete.

"Both the police and Hockley Golf Club are anxious to trace the vandals and anyone able to offer any relevant information is asked to contact them at the earliest opportunity."

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary, said: "This vandalism has left the club with a substantial repair bill and we are keen to trace those responsible for the incidents.

"Anyone with information can contact either Twyford Police station on 0845 045 4545 or anonymously via the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111."
