There was no sign of a revival by Winchester as they look to climb away from the danger end of London Division 2 South as they were humiliated at home by mid-table Sidcup 37-5.
Admittedly, coach Mike Marchant was still scratching around for a side less than two hours before kick-off as he was forced to make nine changes from the side announced earlier in the week. But they fell apart in the face of the decent Kent outfit.
Only second row Alex Hayes' try, created when scrum-half Nick DeStefano broke and fed the lock on the left midway through the first half shone in the gloom of a dire performance that keeps them entrenched in the bottom three of the table.
Andover threw themselves a lifeline with an outstanding 14-13 home success over high-flying Old Mid-Whitgiftian, a result which lifts Marc Wilding's side out of the basement and ahead of Cobham. That is thanks to county rivals Gosport & Fareham, who recorded a third straight home success by shutting out the Surrey strugglers 31-0 to boost their own safety credentials.
Two tries from fly-half Jonathan Wood fired the peninsular side to their fourth consecutive win since their return to familiar territory - but the two points gained from this game has been wiped off by the league for not fulfilling a fixture with Richmond back in October, although this was always expected.
