E. NESBIT's heart-warming adventure story The Railway Children is coming to Central Studio from Thursday, December 11, until Saturday, December 13.
Brought to the stage by Phoenix Prod-uctions, and adapted by John Dunne, this much-loved children's story revolves around three children whose father has been unjustly sent to prison.
As their mother struggles to keep the family financially afloat, they are forced to move to a small cottage in the country. The Railway Children tells the story of the trials and adventures of a middle-class Edwardian family living in the suburbs of London at the turn of the century.
Here, the youngsters embark on a series of adventures around the nearby railway station when they make friends with an elderly passenger on a passing train. He rides the Green Dragon every day and holds the key to their father's mysterious disappearance.
This tale of hardship, innocence and virtue rewarded has stood the test of time and continues to be enjoyed by audiences of all ages.
It was most famously made into a film in 1970 starring Jenny Agutter, which was recently included among the best 100 British Pictures in the past century by the British Film Institute. It has also been added to the Chicago Museum of Fine Arts as an example of the best of British film making.
It will certainly be an evening not to be missed. Tickets, priced at £9.50 with concessions available, can be purchased from the box office on 01256 418318.
