RADIO Tarifa, who are appearing at The Anvil on Sunday, November 16, have been critically-acclaimed since their debut album Rumba Argelina in 1993.
Innovative and mercurial, they blend Arabian, Andalucian, Jewish and Christian music with updated lyrics and radical arrangements which will take your breath away.
The band takes its name from the imaginary radio station of Tarifa, the town situated on the southern-most tip of Spain, the closest European point to Africa in a kind of no-man's land suspended between the Arabic and Mediterranean worlds - a perfect metaphor for the band.
Radio Tarifa was formed by percussionist Fain S Duenas, vocalist Benjamin Escoriza and flautist Vincent Mloino, who were drawn together by a passion for, and desire to experiment with, the foun-dations of Mediterranean music.
After 10 years of honing their live performance around the globe, Radio Tarifa now undertake their most extensive tour of England with an expanded band. Support comes for Kad Achouri, whose album Liberte has just been released to great acclaim.
Tickets for Radio Tarifa, priced at £14.50, are available from The Anvil box office on 01256 844244 or log on to The Anvil website www.theanvil.org.uk
