A FATHER of two has been killed in a tragic road accident while out cycling.
He's been named as Jonathan Woodburn, aged 47. Mr Woodburn died after a head-on collision with a car in a country lane near Wickham.
Speaking from the family home in Medlicott Way, Swanmore, Mr Woodburn's devasted wife paid tribute to a "loving father" and "keen cyclist."
She said her husband was an experienced cyclist who had in the past been a member of different cycling clubs. Mr Woodburn, was also a scientist who was due to start a new job a week today. He was father to two daughters. He's believed to have been cycling for pleasure when the accident happened.
Police are still appealing for witnesses to the accident on the B2177 Southwick Road near to The Pines Service Station last Friday morning at 10.45am. Mr Woodburn was riding his racing bike from Wickham when he was in collision with a silver Volkswagen Bora. The car was travelling in the opposite direction. The woman driver and her husband, a passenger, both aged 66 are from the Cosham area. They were not injured but left badly shaken.
Sergeant Cleaven Faulkner of Fareham traffic police in charge of the accident investigation is appealing for anyone who may have seen Mr Woodburn cycling on the B2177 before the collision or the accident itself to come forward.
