A HAMPSHIRE port company has joined forces with an UK security firm in response to new international legislation in the aftermath of 9/11 and ongoing terrorist alerts.
The international ship and port facility security code comes into force next July and it requires, among other things, that shipping companies and port facilities draft and implement security plans and nominate dedicated security officers.
Cruise and Passenger Services (CPS), a division of Southampton Cargo Handling, is working with a UK guarding company, The Corps, to provide a "one-stop'' security service to dockside terminals across the country and overseas.
CPS director Keith Back said: "As a result of the new regulations a port terminal has to respond rapidly to any changing security states and now, under this partnership, CPS and The Corps will be able to react quickly and effectively whenever the situation demands."
