SOUNDS great - "Last Friday night at the Memorial Hall - it was Hallowe'en, of course - was no trick. It was a treat."
That was Ellisfield's own Cecil B De Mille, Roger Graham, talking about the hall's Hallowe'en entertainment, featuring Ensemble Champagne.
Another matter for congratulation. The old Memorial Hall has astonishingly good acoustics and the string quartet could be heard perfectly.
They offered a mix of classics and light music - ranging from Music for the Royal Fireworks and the quartet from Rigoletto, to Making Whoopee and Let's Do It.
Susan Haslet provided supper - her cream gateau and blackcurrant cheesecake were particularly wonderful.
CHRISTMAS Bazaar: November 29 is the date, and our talented artist, Sharon Rudd, will be there in her capacity as face-painter extraordinaire.
Bill Thompson will be there in his capacity as our favourite squeeze-box player.
There will also be a tombola, cakes and produce, a book stall, raffles, tea and mince pies and I'm doing the mulled wine.
REQUEST: Has anyone got a much-loved, real knock-out recipe for mulled wine that they would share with me?
CHRISTMAS carols: This year, the Ellisfield Ladies are organising carols around the tree in St Martin's churchyard with (more) mulled wine in the Memorial Hall afterwards.
Make a note of the date now - December 17.
