MOTORISTS were warned to be on their guard today after a second car driver was targeted by a gang of youths in Southampton.

Police urged drivers to continue on their journey if approached by the group which is believed to be behind two similar attacks in the Lordswood area in the past week.

A 35-year-old dad was threatened with a knife and robbed of his wallet containing £250 after a baby-faced robber climbed into his car when he stopped at traffic lights.

The terrifying incident, which involved four accomplices, happened near the junction of Coxford Road and Lordshill Way at 4am on Saturday. Now a second driver has been targeted in the same area.

The victim, in his 50s, and his wife had been driving home from a function in Sandpiper Road at 8.30pm on Wednesday when a group of youths jumped into the middle of the road, forcing them to stop the car. One of the teenagers tried to get into the vehicle, but the motorist managed to shove him back out.

Officers are urging all motorists to take extra care when driving through the area until the youths have been apprehended.

PC Ben Atkinson, of Southampton police's robbery team, said: "This group may have tried to stop other cars, and we would like to hear from anyone who has been the victim of a similar incident. If you are approached in such a way, you should not stop. Call the police by dialling 999 as soon as possible."

Anyone with information about either incident is urged to call the crime team at Southampton Central police station on 0845 045 4545, or the free and anonymous Southern Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
