Bournemouth first XI 5 Andover first XI 1
This was a standard away day for Andover: a promising first half, followed by a terrible second period, ending in a thrashing.
The Dorset side are league leaders, and their early pressure was converted into a goal midway through the opening half.
Andover were guilty of giving the ball away, allowing the Bournemouth forwards to sweep forward, and a shot from the top of the circle was deflected in by an unmarked centre-forward.
To their credit Andover were quickly back into the game and before the interval produce two excellent attacks, the first resulting in the equaliser. A well-worked attack started by Rob Thomas found Glyn Hacker, whose perfectly placed pass put Andy Winnett through into the circle.
Winnett's dribbling skills took him past the Bournemouth defence and as the keeper slid out he calmly chipped his shot into the goal.
The visitors followed this with perhaps the best attack of the match, as after numerous passes Justin Adcock almost provided the perfect finish, only to see his shot go wide of the goal.
But after a period of constant pressure the home side regained the lead, as a deflected corner strike got past keeper Ed Butterworth.
The second half was a disaster for Andover, as Bournemouth took advantage of their visitors' lethargy and secured victory with two goals in as many minutes.
Adcock's powerful strike forced an excellent save from the home keeper and then Nigel Downing thought he had scored when he deflected in an Andy Cole penalty corner, but the umpire had spotted that the ball had hit the back of Downing's stick.
The final minutes gave the best evidence of the gulf between the sides, as Downing's close range shot somehow went wide of the post, and straight from the restart the Bournemouth centre-forward found himself unmarked in front goal with only the keeper to beat, and his superior finishing put the ball past Ed Butterworth.
