The Little Britain Challenge Cup, the construction industry regatta now in it's 15th year, was held off Cowes, Isle Wight, from 12th to 15th September.
The event, which is the largest regatta in the UK after Cowes week, attracted a record 221 entrants from every area of the business, including architects, builders, engineers, surveyors and lawyers. There were 56 new entrants.
Well known faces from the sailing world taking part included Olympic Gold medallist Shirley Robertson, world yachtsman Harold Cudmore and yachtswoman Lorna Graham. The Royal Yacht Squadron organised the racing, with two races on the Friday for which the weather was sunny with 3-4 winds. Saturday's racing was just as competitive, but as always the true Corinthian spirit prevailed.
This year for the first time there was a tie for the Little Britain Challenge Cup, with honours being shared between last years winner The Manser practice sailing 'Menenes' (IRC Racing class 3) and N.Froy & Sons sailing 'Scallywag' (IRC Racing class 2).
After each day's hard racing over 2,000 entrants also partied hard, rocking to diverse sounds from 'Shine' to The Band of HM Royal Marines', Plymouth.
The Little Britain Challenge Cup proves that it is possible to have fun and raise over a £100,000 for charity. The main beneficiaries will be the Cirdan and Jubilee Sailing Trusts, local organisations such as the Island Youth Centre Water Activities and the Cowes Sea Cadets.
