KING of the sausage makers Les Smith has struck gold with more sizzling successes.
The Bishopstoke butcher came through the judges' grilling at The Great Hampshire Sausage Competition at Sparsholt Collge, Winchester, to take the title of Supreme Sausage Champion.
Les, who swept the board clinching six golds and three trophies, beat off competition from more than 30 butchers from across Hampshire.
As well as landing the supreme title, Les also won the champion trophies for his Valentine Sausage, named A Must For Lust, speciality pork sausage and traditional pork sausage.
He started taking part in competitions in 1988 and since then has scooped 80 trophies, including winning international recognition.
From his Riverside butcher's shop he produces about 75 varieties of sausages. He says the secret to producing a perfect sausage is good meat.
