Eastleigh Angling Club may just prove the stronger in the second round of the Reelcare Knockout Cup on Long-bridge on Sunday.
But any of the nine sides are capable of winning what looks to be a cracking competition and qualifying places will be at a premium.
Eastleigh are led by Bob Drew and includes Longbridge big carp specialist Chalkie White plus experienced match anglers Dave Self and Paul White.
They probably have the edge and look to be the only side that should make it through to the final on Longbridge on the August 11.
Woodington Feed, led by Speed Andrews, qualified for the last two years and will have done their homework and are expected to put up a good performance.
Cormorants C are always a strong side on Longbridge, which is classified as home territory. With brilliant Dynamite Baits' angler Simon Hambridge in the side, a reasonable draw for him would see a bumper weight which would leave the remaining squad members little to do.
Wessex Angling Centre A should have the measure of their B side while Salisbury field a side in the competition for the first time in the shape of Barneys Black who are all experienced carp match anglers. Sillybait Red from the West Country will probably find lack of up-to-date form on the venue their main downfall, while Alans Marine B and Chichester both have chances.
The Marshall Rolfe Toyota Qualifier held on Nutsey saw Cliff Carbis win with five tench to 5lb 9oz, two eels for 8lb 8oz and 14lb of roach for a winning weight of 43lb 4oz to qualify for the final. Second was Norman Hayter who took 13 tench for 40lb 15oz. Third: Nick Jones 38lb 10oz, fourth: Gordon Warner 22lb 70z, fifth: Darren Stride 12lb 14oz, sixth: Maurice Townsend 4lb 11oz.
The Stoneham evening match on saw Graham Tappenden take a mixed bag from the middle of the lake for 39lb 6oz on pole and corn followed home by Mick Kenny with 31lb 9oz. Others: Mick Marsh 28lb 8oz, Kevin Hatcher 26lb 8oz, Sash Partington 21lb 11oz and D Self 16lb 2oz.
Another Marshall Rolfe Toyota qualifier held on the Match Lake at Broadlands, saw Graham Tappenden in fine form yet again winning with 55lb 8oz of carp on the pole from peg 18.
Dave Higgins came second with 45lb 4oz fishing peg 2. Others: Kev Downer 35lb 14oz, Sash Partingdon 30lb 2oz, Bob Drew 28lb 14oz, Wendy Halliday 25lb 2oz.
The Cormorants fished against the Salmon Leap on Longbridge at the weekend.
Clive Egerton came first with 62lb 10oz bag of mainly carp with a few silver fish on peg 32 on waggler and paste to the far bank. Second was Rich Kajko on peg 29 with a mainly skimmers bag to 2lb plus a few tench for 54lb 15oz on caster and maggot. Third: Speed Andrews on peg 9 for 44lb 4oz of silver fish, tench and carp on waggler, corn and worm from the middle of the lake, fourth: Terry Sargent on peg 24 taking a 43lb 1oz bag of roach, skimmers and tench on caster and worm.
Ringwood held a Marshall Rolfe Toyota qualifier on Hightown with Nigel Groom qualifying for the final with 27lb 2oz of bream.
Others: Sean Seabright 10lb 3oz, M. Hurst 9lb 4oz.
The Wimbourne evening match on Wednesday took place on Kingsbridge on Wellington Lake and saw Ron Edwards take a carp and a bream plus bits on the pole for 13lb, others Terry Hiscock 7lb, Chris Albiston 5lb 10oz.
The Kennet Osprey AC match group from Basingstoke fished a match on the Lower Lake at Broadlands with Simon Couling taking 44lb 12oz of bream on worm and caster. Steve Treasurer totalled 32lb 8oz of bream taken on pellet. Twenty-two anglers fished to take a total of 320lb to the scales.
