A Romsey-based amateur theatre group will be celebrating its 250th production in style next week - with a visit from the Earl of Wessex.
HRH Prince Edward will join the audience at the Plaza Theatre, Romsey, for resident theatre group Raods' latest show, A Midsummer Night's Dream, next Tuesday.
It is not yet certain whether he will be accompanied by his wife, the Countess of Wessex.
Prince Edward, who once worked as a production assistant for Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Company, chose to come and see the play after they invited him to come and help celebrate their latest milestone.
"He said he would like to come and see the theatre and chose to come and see this production," explained the show's director, Lynette Butcher.
The 39-year-old prince, a self-confessed showbiz fan, will see the play along with the general public and dignitaries including the Mayor of Test Valley, Councillor Pat West, and Romsey MP Sandra Gidley.
The prince has insisted that he is not given the red carpet treatment, but will be introduced to the evening's special guests during the interval and chat to the cast after the show.
"The cast are very excited and nervous about meeting him, but I'm sure there won't be any hitches on the night, as I'm quite a stickler," said Mrs Butcher.
"I'm sure the prince will enjoy the show. I've emphasised the humour and tried to make it accessible as possible."
Raods has built up a reputation for high standards since its first production in 1934. A Midsummer Night's Dream is the final production in the group's comedy season. For tickets and information call the box office on 01794 512987.
