Winchester children and many of their parents were taken back more than 1,000 years in time in a living history event at the city museum.
Godfrid, the Anglo-Saxon, recounted tales from the dawning of English civilisation when Winchester was the capital of Wessex and then England.
Children had the opportunity to dress up in helmet and chain mail as well as holding a replica of King Alfred's sword and various shields made by Godfrid himself.
Visitors could ask any questions about all aspects of late Anglo-Saxon life, from weaponry and customs to education and health.
As well as talking to Godfrid there were plenty of hands-on activities for children, including rubbings of an Anglo-Saxon penny, handling genuine pottery pieces and bones from the period, and puzzles and pottery designs.
