CLAUS LUNDEKVAM is calling for a massive improvement from Saints at Bolton next Saturday - after admitting the 2-0 loss to Manchester City was his worst display of the season.
The Norwegian had been in outstanding form and Saints went into the match against City with the best defensive record in the Premiership and seven clean sheets in only 13 matches.
But they bizarrely stood off Robbie Fowler and his goal after just four minutes set the tone for the rest of the match.
Lundekvam said: "It was quite unbelievable. I made a weak tackle, but there were three players behind and only Jason Dodd was getting pulled outside.
"As defenders we can't make mistakes, you have to be solid all the time.
"You expect people to sometimes have an off-day, but you expect more than we gave and we looked like we weren't ready - we lost far too many challenges.
"I can only speak for myself, but I had my worst game of the season and I don't know why it happened."
Lundekvam also admitted Saints struggled for goals.
He added: "When we have conceded a goal we have found it hard this season to create.
"They won more balls and they deserved to win. We normally go after teams and cause them problems, but we seemed to be waiting for something to happen.
"We need to look at that and I can't wait for the next game. We are very disappointed with the way we performed and let's hope we can get back to winning ways as soon as possible."
The FA is today expected to decide whether to take action against Saints first team coach Dennis Rofe or Blackburn manager Graeme Souness following a heated argument on the way to the St Mary's tunnel after the 2-0 win against Rovers last week.
An FA spokesman said they had requested video footage of the incident and were now studying the evidence.
Saints' home match against Chelsea on November 22 sold out in record time yesterday only hours after tickets went on sale to members. It is the sixth successive St Mary's sell-out this season.
