=THIS one act play starts with an analogy - a dramatic licence is compared with a driving licence.

Arty (Laura Sherman) has accumulated too many points through her various artistic renderings. She sets off with a king's (played well by Alex McGuire) son, on an odyssey to expunge her points.

On the way she encounters dilemmas of orthodox versus artistic interpretations in a meeting with, inter alia, meringue makers.

Oxymoron - a character but also the message of the play - is in the capable personsis of Ben Johnson, whose gravelly spoken tones were in direct contrast to some of the cast whose enunciation left many questions for the audience who were not helped by a lack of programme information.

More use could have been made of the front of stage. Coralie Smith made a convincing TV presenter and Matt Martin, in a loud jacket, gave credence to his role of artiste's manager. With many of the cast taking several roles, there was opportunity for the company to demonstrate its depth of talent.

Finishes 3 November.
