As they sat in the trenches
Waiting for the word
Many prayers were uttered
Words whispered, barely heard.
As they sailed the high seas
To islands far away
The chaplain prayed beside them
His prayers recalled today.
As they sought peace
On a closer Emerald Isle
Women worked together
Prayed for peace to smile.
As they dug into the desert
With mountains at their backs
Men muttered their beliefs
Reading Bibles from their packs.
As we walk the well-kept grasslands
Our eyes rest upon the rows
The glistening white of crosses
Here lie both friends and foes.
As our minds wander
We remember fallen friends
Flowers in a distant field
Ensure remembrance never ends.

NEXT week we will be devoting Creative Corner to poems for Remembrance Day.
Send in your poems, which can be directly about war or inspired by the theme of Remembrance, and I will print as many of them as I can.
