WHEN the father of a teenage boy and his little brother fails to turn up at a football match, where he was supposed to referee, they go in search of him.
Abouna, which translates as Our Father, is set in N'Djamena on the Chad/Cameroon border. It follows 15-year-old Tahir and his asthmatic eight-year-old brother, Amine, as they try to track their father, who has headed to Morocco.
Their search sets off a chain of events which land them in a strict Koranic school where tragedy strikes.
The story has a simple structure but beneath the surface lie complex emotions.
In French with English subtitles.
