A GROUP of Southampton residents are celebrating after being given thousands of pounds to spruce up their community.
The Northam Tenants' and Residents' Association has been handed an £8,000 grant for environmental projects.
Most of the cash will be used for a peace garden, which was converted from a derelict yard by hard-working volunteers on the estate for pensioners.
Money will also be spent on new play equipment for youngsters and the planting of trees.
The grant was awarded by environmental charity the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers.
Dawn Humphries, secretary of the residents' association, said: "We are all really delighted with this. We want people in Northam to be proud and happy of the place they live in and we are always trying to make it even better."
