THE SOUTH'S most famous one-hit wonder, Gordon Haskell, is booked to play a two-hander in the New Forest next month.
With his longtime musical mate Robbie MacIntosh - a former Pretenders and Paul McCartney Band guitarist - Gordon, pictured, is to strut his stuff at the 300-seat Waterside Theatre, Holbury. The one-off concert has been organised by amateur pop promoter Linda Charles of Hythe. Linda, an equestrian photographer, risked thousands of pounds of her own money in 2002, arranging a Waterside gig for former Zombies Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent. It was a triumphant sell-out, persuading Linda to fix a follow-up concert at the same venue nine months later. Now Linda is hoping her third time as a promoter will be lucky too.
"I discovered that I loved putting on concerts. It doesn't seem like hard work. But I have to feel strongly about a musician," said Linda.
"Bringing Blunstone and Argent to the New Forest was a dream for me. I won tickets to a Colin Blunstone concert in Southampton in 1998 and I was so impressed by the range and power of his voice.
Gordon, who comes from Dorset, hit the bigtime in 2001 when his single How Wonderful You Are made number two in the Christmas charts. His album, Harry's Bar, made it to number two the following year.
Tickets for Haskell and McIntosh at the Waterside Theatre at 7.30pm on Saturday, November 22 are on sale for £12.50 at Hythe Photo Centre, Marsh Parade, Hythe.
