TWO Totally Tennis performance players, joined by two other British players, have set off for Texas, USA, to begin a 10-day tour of the state, visiting eight universities to investigate any possible tennis scholarships.
Totally Tennis' Tanya Hasking and Sammie Moreton, accompanied by their coach Shane Deacon and mentor Linda Hasking, will meet tutors and coaches to gauge what is required, both in tennis terms and academically, should they decide to try for a university place.
The players' visit will include the University of Houston, where Totally Tennis player Sarah Flood is in her fourth academic year. She is studying for a BSc kinesiology (sport and exercise science) which finishes this year.
On a similar visit in 2002, Totally Tennis player Adam Flintoff got a taste of State-side university life and was accepted for a scholarship which started in September. It is hoped that both Moreton and Hasking will be offered similar opportunities.
Deacon said before the visit: "The players on the trip have been sponsored by Totally Tennis for many years. If we are able to help them further by securing university scholarships, as we have done for other players, it will be an enormous reward for all the hard work and commitment of the players and their coaches."
