AN Andover charity shop opened by Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire Mary Fagan in May is keeping its promise to give something back to the community.
Neighbourcare, based in Union Street in Andover has decided to use its profits to reward those unsung heroes who have made a special contribution to the community in Andover.
Neighbourcare wants people to nominate friends, colleagues or neighbours who they believe deserve a special treat.
Those names drawn from the hat will be able to enjoy one of three weekend trips, six visits with transport for two to the theatre, a dozen cinema tickets or 10 Christmas hampers.
"When we opened we always said we would like to give something back to the community if we were successful," said Neighbourcare manager Pam Delderfield.
"The community shop has proved to be a huge success thanks to the kind donations from the public."
Unlike many other charity shops, which benefit from being part of a national network and can be supplied from central stocks, Neighbourcare is dependent on local donations.
Nor does it receive commercial favours.
"A lot of people think we get our rents paid but we pay full repairing rent and the total overheads are quite steep," added Pam.
"We are hoping that if the shop continues to flourish this will be an ongoing event and we will be able to support other worthwhile causes."
As well as providing treats for individuals and couples there are to be free shopping trips for local groups to Winchester, Basingstoke or Salisbury. To be included in the draw nominators must ensure their nomination reaches the Neighbour-care offices at 14 Union Street by 14 November.
