SOUTHAMPTON heavyweight Colin Kenna returns to the ring this weekend with an ultimatum from manager Jack Bishop: "Lose this one and I might tell you to quit the sport!"

The Lordshill boxer takes the first step on the comeback trail after his first round knockout against Southern Area champion Michael Sprott at Bethnal Green in August.

He will fight Stoke's Danny Ashton at the Thistle Hotel in Heathrow on Sunday after Bishop turned down a contest against 'Slick' Miller.

Ashton is a former Midland area cruiserweight and super middleweight champion and will provide Kenna with the tough test he needs.

Bishop, also Kenna's trainer, said: "There was no point fighting Miller, Colin knocked him out in his first professional fight - there was nothing to prove in taking that fight.

"Colin needs to have several fights against good opponents before he can consider a rematch against Sprott.

"I know he can beat Sprott, I have seen him spar against him, but what I need to see now is how Colin bounces back from his loss.

"Against Sprott, Colin paid the price for one second's loss of concentration.

"Do that in boxing and you're on the floor, so we've been concentrating on Colin's defences. I have to rebuild his confidence.

"If Colin was to get beat again badly, I would have to think about telling him to walk away.

"That's why I need to see Colin in action, to see if either he's got it or he hasn't."

Meanwhile, Totton's Danny Cooper is also in action on the same bill against Midlands welterweight Kasey Brook.

"If Danny does well I'll be contacting the British Boxing Board of Control to put him forward for a southern area title fight," said Bishop.
