FOR more than 15 years, Christine Collister has been employing her powerful voice to amazing effect across the musical spectrum.
The genre-defying singer, who comes to the Ashcroft Arts Centre, Fareham on Saturday, has touched on almost every musical style, including soul, blues, pop, jazz, country and folk.
Her latest album, Into the Light, tracks from which will be performed in Fareham, was recorded in three different locations with three different producers.
Her previous solo albums have seen her interpret material by the likes of Smoky Robinson, Nick Drake, Robert Wyatt, Tom Waits and Lal Waterson, while her own compositions have taken on a distinctive personal stamp.
Her professional recording career began in the mid-1980s. She first came to public attention singing the theme tune to the cult TV drama The Life and Loves of a She Devil.
Following a fruitful association with The Richard Thompson Band, she guested on albums by Loudon Wainwright and Bert Jansch.
She also enjoyed a seven-year partnership with Clive Gregson and in more recent years has collaborated with Barb Jungr and female folk supergroup Daphne's Flight.
However, it was probably her solo albums The Dark Gift of Time and Blue Aconite that established her as an artist of substance both at home and abroad.
The concert starts at 8pm. Tickets cost from £7.50. Box office: 01329 310600.
