MICHAEL SVENSSON produced a man-of-the-match display to help shut out Everton at Goodison Park - but spoke of the team's frustration at not winning.
The Swedish centre-back stepped out to make saving tackles on countless occasions as Everton struggled to create chances in the 0-0 draw.
But Saints have now gone four games without scoring (five without winning) and Svensson said the entire team must take responsibility for another clean sheet as well as the goal drought.
He said: "We are frustrated, we always want to win, but one point is nice away from home.
"I was up there with a few chances and we tried to create some balls for the other guys to score.
"Good, attacking football starts with defence.
"Our aim was for three points, we should have scored and it is unfortunate that we didn't. But we are satisfied with the draw."
Although both sides struggled to make clear-cut chances, Saints dominated most of what was an entertaining end-to-end game, particularly in the second-half.
Svensson said: "It was all about how we started the game. James Beattie made a very good run at the start and blocked the ball and it was as if to say 'we are on our way'.
"From there we continued it all the way through to Antti Niemi.
"We played very well all over the pitch and I am satisfied to have a clean sheet. As a defence that is what you want.
"We handled them quite well, but they were always dangerous and Jeffers and Campbell are good strikers."
He added: "We controlled the game very well and Antti Niemi made a few good saves.
"They were always dangerous and we had to be on our guard against crosses especially, because Campbell is extremely good in the air.
"But we played really well and were organised in defence."
Following Saints' UEFA Cup exit at the feet of Steaua Bucharest after a 19-year wait for European competition, Svensson said the players were doubly determined to bounce back at Goodison Park.
He said: "We were desperately disappointed to get kicked out of the UEFA Cup and we were determined to get something from the game to come back from that disappointment.
"We must now go from here.
"I feel that we want revenge to make up for the UEFA Cup, we were really disappointed, but we can't go thinking about it and must focus on the next game.
"We must keep improving and getting better, we want to bounce back."
Svensson also paid tribute to Saints' fans following consecutive away games in Newcastle, Romania and Everton.
"After Newcastle and Steaua the fans were marvellous for us again," he said.
"They are fantastic, they continue to follow us and that makes a big difference."
