THE VINE and Craven hunt is to host a mass protest meet for supporters to declare their opposition to a ban on hunting.
The meet, which is part of a nationwide event, will take place at Newbury Showground from 10am on November 1.
It will see members of 10 hunts from across the South of England sign the "Hunting Declaration", which would commit them to non co-operation with any ban.
With the Hunting Bill currently being considered in the House of Lords, Robin Mackenzie, joint master of the Vine and Craven, said: "This is to remind those who are making decisions about the future of hunting that it's a sport that is well-supported by people from all over the country, from all walks of life, and all political parties.
"The bill is flying in the face of what the ordinary people think and not just country people - there are a tremendous number of town people who enjoy hunting."
In line with the message that hunting is open to all, Mr Mackenzie said that the Vine and Craven will also be holding a "newcomers week" between November 10 and 15, inviting people who have never hunted before to try it for themselves.
He said: "They can spend a day with us and we will explain what goes on so people can see what hunting is about."
Interested parties need not own a horse, as they can join foot followers of the hunt.
