Havant & Waterlooville bosses Mick Jenkins and Liam Daish are far from happy with their side, even though they sit just two points off the Premier Division summit after completing the double over south coast rivals Dorchester.
If results go their way, the fourth-placed Hawks could even go top by winning at Steve Claridge's Weymouth tomorrow (7.45), but there is still plenty of work to do after Saturday's unconvincing 2-1 success at the Avenue Stadium.
From going two up through Aaron Skelton and Chukki Eribenne, Hawks struggled to finish off an ailing Magpies side who played half the game with striker Jamie Brown in goal after Mark Ormerod had limped off with a dead leg.
Dorchester also lost Justin Keeler through injury but, just as they did at Westleigh Park earlier in the season, the Magpies came strong in the second half.
Alex Browne glanced a header against the crossbar before Matt Groves pulled a goal back in the 64th minute. Mark Rawlinson was then denied by Hawks' 'keeper Gareth Howells and Browne again went close with a header.
In Jenkins's book the Hawks made unnecessarily hard work it. He said: "At 2-0 up we were looking comfortable, but we need a nasty streak to finish sides off. We missed four one-on-ones and when you do that it puts you under extreme pressure.
"I'm pleased with the result, but not totally happy with the performance. We got very sloppy and need to defend better as a team."
