RESIDENTS in the SureStart Central area in Southampton have been rewarded for their educational achievements.
About 40 people were invited to receive certificates from Southampton mayor, Councillor Parvin Damani at a special event at the city's Civic Centre yesterday.
All of the people who received certificates took part in one of three training courses related to play and childcare.
The courses include Making Choices, which informs people about the options of working within the play and childcare field, Take 5 for Play which provides an introductory qualification for play workers and introduction to Working in a Creche which is an Open College Network level two qualification for creche workers.
The city council's Cabinet member for communities and regeneration, Councillor Liz Mizon, said: "SureStart plays an important role in improving the lives and welfare of children from birth up to four years old.
"Helping people in the SureStart area access jobs in play services and childcare will also benefit the children living in that area.
"This event is a chance for people to celebrate what they have achieved."
