LIVING on two slices of bread a day - that is what customers at Eastleigh's Save the Children charity shop have been asked to imagine.
Every day millions of poverty-stricken children have to survive on this meagre ration.
The menu from Albania, which has been on display at the High Street shop, consists of - breakfast: slice of bread sprinkled thinly with sugar or oil; lunch: slice of bread with small amount of boiled potatoes and dinner: pancakes.
It is called the "dollar menu" because it costs less than a dollar. Yesterday was UN Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
Save the Children, the United Kingdom's leading international children's charity, is marking this date as Beat Poverty Day.
It says that beating child poverty is the biggest challenge facing the world today. And Save the Children is urging people from the Hampshire area to support its work with the poorest children by taking up the challenge of living on less than a dollar a day.
