Sir.-At last somebody has restored my faith in human nature.
I applied for a job at Asda in Brighton Hill, Basingstoke, and was taken on as a member of the George staff in May.
Being 54 years old, I was extremely pleased to be treated as a worthy individual from the word go.
Unfortunately, at the beginning of July, I injured a nerve in my side, causing me to be immobile for almost three months. As a result, I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a muscle rheumatism, and have been told that I must do no physical work.
Asda has been supportive throughout, ringing me at home, sending a get well card and even visiting me twice to see how I am getting on.
I informed them of the diagnosis, fearing the worst. Instead they immediately offered me another job with no physical ability needed.
I have even received a week's holiday money which I had booked prior to my illness.
In this day and age, you hear so many stories of non-caring employers. I feel Asda deserves a little recognition as a supremely caring company, and I am indebted to them for making me feel worthy and useful as an employee.
