A POIGNANT tale of Irish life comes to Chandler's Ford from Thursday as the Chameleon Theatre Company perform the multi-award-winning play Dancing at Lughnasa.
This is the story of five impoverished sisters living in a remote part of County Donegal in Southern Ireland in 1936 and of the events that change their lives forever.
The closeness of the sisters and the difficulties they experience when their older brother returns from Africa after 25 years as a missionary are explored.
Director Mike Morris, who has been with Chameleon for 18 years and directed numerous productions says: "I first read this play a few years ago and from that moment on I always hoped that one day I would be able to direct it.
"It is so cleverly written that the story just unfolds. It is funny but not a comedy, sad but not a tragedy - just a lovely tale of life 70 years ago.
"Our challenge is to take away the complications and just let the story unfold before our audience."
23rd - 25th October, Chameleon Theatre, Chandler's Ford. Performance: 7.30pm. Tickets: from £3. Box office: 023 8036 4845.
