A Southampton mum has started a campaign to make a city road safer for children and pensioners.
Dawn Davies, 33, has collected more than 100 signatures for a petition demanding action in Castle Way.
The part-time sales assistant of Palmerston House, Palmerston Road, said that the road, which has a 30mph limit, has become dangerous for children attending St John's School in French Street.
Dawn, who walks her five-year-old son Matthew to the school, said: "Something has got to be done to slow down the traffic along that road before someone is killed. A lot of parents cross that road with their children on the way to school and the traffic is so fast.
"It really affects people who live in the Holyrood estate near Queen's Way. Pensioners who walk slowly across the road are also in danger of being hit. All we need is speed bumps or a proper crossing."
Dawn has also written a letter to MP John Denham, the city council and has spoken to Southampton mayor Parvin Damani.
She also wants to see traffic-calming measures in Palmerston Road after a nine-year-old girl was injured by a car.
She said: "It annoys me that the council is willing to put a crossing outside Debenhams so that shoppers are safe.
"But why hasn't anything been done to slow the traffic and allow residents in the area to cross safely as well?"
Southampton Itchen MP John Denham said: "It is quite a wide road so I am not sure that speed bumps are the most appropriate option, but I am generally in favour of supporting these sorts of campaign."
A city council spokesman said: "We have had no recorded injuries or accidents in the Castle Way vicinity.
"There are plans for the redevelopment of the old Habitat site that backs on to Castle Way.
"We will remodel the road layout in this area with a view to making it safer and residents will be consulted on the proposed changes to the road layout."
