Trojans and Winchester are the only Hampshire/Surrey Regional League clubs still able to boast unblemished records after two rounds of fixtures.

Trojans, 5-0 winners over Basingstoke in their opener, trimmed London Edwardians 3-0, while Winchester won 4-2 at Wanderers.

The season has not begun so well for Hamble, who lie rooted to the foot of the table after a 3-1 defeat by Barnes.

Chris Wiseman and Campbell Williams were twice denied before Trojans eventually took a late first-half lead through Simon Lucas.

Trojans called the tune throughout, with Matt Sykes notching a second after Colin French's speed had taken the Eastleigh schoolteacher past three Edwardians defenders.

Martin King got the third after a pitch-length move involving French.

"It was the first time in three years we'd won in London and it's great that, after two matches, we've yet to concede a goal," said skipper Campbell Williams.

"But we're at Barnes on Saturday and how often have they proved a thorn in the side of local clubs in the past?"

Teenager Alex Bennett notched his second consecutive goal brace as Winchester warmed up for Saturday's tough encounter against Woking with a 4-2 win over Wanderers.

Bennett, who scored two fine individualist goals against Hamble the previous week, opened his account with a delicate lob over the goalkeeper after a quick release by Justin Brooking.

"We played some good hockey high in the Wanderers half - but then fell asleep, allowing them to equalise," lamented Winchester goalkeeper Craig Falkingham.

Adi Adams restored Winchester's advantage before the break and, after some solid link play by Pete Rowland, the visitors stretched their advantage with Brendan Viggers making it 3-1 from Dom Walker's short corner.

Winchester made their presence felt with Bennett adding a fourth before Wanderers grabbed a second consolation goal from a short corner.

Two goals in the opening ten minutes pointed Hamble towards an eventual 3-1 defeat against Barnes at Satchel Lane.

Steve Hankins capitalised on a defensive mix-up and then Colin Hector scored from a penalty stroke after a Hankins shot struck Paul Barber's foot on the goal line.

Duncan Marsh pulled one back for Hamble before the break.

"We were well in the game and were the better side in spells before and after the break. But the final pass was missing and our strikers suffered from a lack of service," reflected Hamble linkman Ken Reiman.

Will Smith struck the knockout blow for Barnes ten minutes from time.

Mark Sandell (2) scored his second consecutive brace and Andy Hyder got the other goal in Hamble 2nd XI's 3-3 Regional League draw with Barnes.

Southampton lost 3-1 at Hampshire League rivals Salisbury, despite a goal by Chris Stokes, but Southampton University began their programme on a winning note at Gosport.
