WINCHESTER'S mayor stood to attention when she received a visit from 21cadets from the Worthy Down Barracks.
The young army recruits visited Cllr Jean Hammerton at Abbey House, her official residence, to find out more about her civic and ceremonial role.
The group, ranging in age from 19 to 33, comprised both officer cadets and serving soldiers who are hoping to train as officers.
The visit forms part of their course on cultural development and was organised by the serving soldiers to help develop their planning skills.
