Good Wives - Dalian Players, Woolston Methodist Hall
BASED on Louisa May Alcott's follow-up to Little Women, Peter Clapham's play Good Wives describes the customs, attitudes and values of a family in 1860s Massachusetts, New England.
Spanning two years, the piece traces the fortunes - and misfortunes - of the four Little Women through love, marriage, births and tragically young death.
Despite the occasional odd and inconsistent American accent (why do so many British actors find this so difficult?), Dalian Players entertain their audience with some confident performances, particularly Michael Tosdevin as the urbane Mr Laurence and Belinda Poore as the creative writer daughter Jo March.
Convincing costumes, set and props help to convey the caring, if claustrophobic, atmosphere within the family.
