The Milford Shingle Bank again produced the goods at the Lymington Autumn Open.
The 120 competitors landed a wide variety of species - but visiting angler John Lintern carried off the £200 top prize.
Lintern, fishing just 200 yards along the bank, beached five smoothhound along with a few bits totalling 10lb 7oz. The pool for the heaviest fish (a 3lb 7.75oz smoothhound) also boosted his winnings.
Despite the recent dip in temperatures, a good number of summer species were beached. The catch included scad, mackerel, tub gurnard, pollack, sole, black bream, smoothhound, garfish, pouting, dogfish, silver eels, thick lipped mullet and bass.
Top junior was Craig Hopkins from New Milton who got a real surprise when a 3lb 2oz thick lipped mullet picked up a slither of squid presented on a size two hook. Hopkins went on to land a couple more smaller fish for a clear win with 3lb 15.50oz, followed by Tom Shore, also a Lymington member (1lb 6oz), and John Delaney from Fareham (10.75oz).
The pool for the heaviest flatfish was won by Leigh Durrant from Portsmouth with a 1lb 8.50z sole while the pairs section went to John Lintern and Rob Marshall (12lb 15oz) from Alan Price and Shane Russell (7lb 15oz).
Runner-up was Chris Ellis, a 45-year-old shipwright and member of the host club. He took a 8lb 6.75oz catch of smoothhound and pollack, ahead of Tony Methven (Aldershot) 5lb 9.75oz, Shane Russell (North Wales) 4lb 9.25oz, Tony Ward (Bournemouth) 4lb 2.25oz, Alan Price (North Wales) 3lb 5.50oz, Tony O'Grady (Fareham) 3lb 2.75oz, Darren Phillips (Fareham) 3lb 2.50oz and Daniel Mogridge (Fareham) 3lb 1.75oz.
Cogden was the setting for the first round of the Chesil League series, competitors weighing in a wide variety of species including plaice, sole, dogfish, pout, poor cod, red mullet, smoothhound and tub gurnard.
Joe Arch, a former world champion from Wales, travelled down to win the event with 11lb 2.25oz, followed by Colin Richards (7lb 8.25oz), Pete Hegg (6lb 15oz) and Ben Assairati (5lb 15oz).
The next match in the pegged open series, on Saturday at Cogden (fishing 6pm to 11pm), doubles as a Penn point fixture and is pre-book only. Eddie Painter will have details (01308 425925).
Action was disappointing in the Allan's Marine Cost Cutter Pegged Open at Lee-on-the-Solent as Ian Golds won with two small plaice together weighing 1lb 6oz. Runner-up was Dave Jones with a 13oz tub gurnard, ahead of Barry Fradgely with an 11oz plaice.
A High Shore inter-club fixture at Avon beach produced disappointing returns with Lonis AC winning the four-man team event with 2lb 7oz, ahead of Everton B 1lb 6oz, Sway 1lb 5oz and Lymington 1lb 1oz.
Top individual was Keith Brooks, representing Lonis AC, with a 1lb 2oz catch of pouting to nudge out Lionel Sullivan (Everton) 1lb, George Loveless (Sway) 14oz and John Negus (Lonis) 13oz.
