THIS season has started well for the young footballers of Lamb Inn in the Basingstoke and District Saturday League.
Their opening five league games yielded four wins which came as a pleasant surprise to manager Nigel Le Flem, who has been in charge of the team since they joined the Saturday set-up at the beginning of last season.
Before that, the club played many seasons in the Basingstoke Sunday League as Club Verenda and Exiles.
Last season, the team finished eighth in division one and, with some of their players moving to Laarsens, Le Flem was expecting a tough time with a team made up of mostly teenagers.
The manager said: "We are a young team but we are doing well.
"At the start of the season I set ourselves a target of 24 points and we already have half of them in our opening six games.
"We are looking to avoid relegation and finish in mid-table."
Talking about the team, Le Flem pinpointed right-sided player Adam Hill and defender Daniel Hunt as two players who have looked good so far.
Recent signing South African Jared Edy has made his mark with an early-season hat-trick.
By November the Lamb boss expects his life to become more difficult as he will have a full squad to pick from.
Away from the league, he is hoping his side will have a cup run in one of the competitions they have entered.
