TOP scorer Andy Forbes grabbed two more goals as Winchester City opened up a two-point lead at the top of the Sydenhams Wessex League.

Forbes took his seasonal tally to 13 - four more than nearest rival and one-time Winchester target Martin Whiddett of Totton - as City romped to a 7-2 success at Blackfield & Langley.

Danny Smith (2), Michael Dean, Lloyd Webber and Daniel Goss also scored as last season's runaway Hampshire League champs romped to their ninth win in 10 outings.

Gosport jumped up into second place following a 3-0 win over Andover courtesy of goals from Stuart Hensman (2) and Mark Tyron.

Totton, who had started the day second, were held 1-1 at Thatcham.

Graham Kemp continued his fine start to life as Brockenhurst boss with a 1-1 draw at Fareham.

After conceding 33 goals in their opening six games, they have now only conceded 35 in ten.

"We're not just defending for 90 minutes any more," said Kemp.

"The first half in this game was the best we have played since I came back to this club and the players have now got some belief in themselves."

Fareham took the lead in the opening half, but ten minutes into the second period Tomas Frenesson side footed home a deserved equaliser.

Bournemouth Poppies slumped to their first home league defeat of the season in a game manager Keith Williams will want to forget instantly.

Williams currently has 16 players out on the injury list and has just lost influential midfielder Danny Holmes to rivals Lymington & New Milton. Together with the fact that Fawzi Saadi was taken with the first Cherries team to Notts County, it left Williams having to pick himself, and the final twist was yet to come.

Neither side looked like breaking the deadlock until late in the game, when a cross was directed into the Poppies box, and Williams himself nodded into his own net for a Moneyfields winner.

"It can't get any lower than this, and the only possible way is up now," said Williams.

Pete Moore couldn't possibly have got off to a better start in his Christchurch managerial role as Priory thrashed fellow strugglers Whitchurch 5-1 at Hurn Bridge.

Moore's record now stands at played two, won two, scored 12, conceded one, after their initial 7-0 Hampshire Senior Cup win over Andover New Street.

Jordan Fastmedge, who impressed Moore immensely, gave Priory the lead, but on the stroke of half time the visitors levelled the match.

A well taken penalty from Ross Edwards, however, ten minutes after the restart put Christchurch back in front.

And that gave them the impetus to go on to dominate with Graham Dean, Paul Rideout and Chis Kennedy added further goals.

Stuart Cannie grabbed a hat-trick as Wimborne, the only side to have taken points off Winchester this season, won their sixth league match in a row, 4-1 against rock bottom Alton.

Phil McDonald (penalty) and Marc Burrows gave Cowes a 2-0 win at lowly BAT, while Bemerton let a 2-0 lead slip against Portland to draw 4-4. On target for the Harlequins were Stuart Findley (2), Neil Cole and Ian Chalk with David Laws, James Reeve, Chris Evans and Chris Reader replying.

Matt Guy replied as Downton lost 3-1 at AFC Newbury, who netted through Anthony Alleyne, Dave Asker and Ian McShery.
