TRAVELLERS evicted from common land in Southampton have moved to sites near the Millbrook flyover and next door to a primary school in the city.
On Thursday police officers served families camped at Highfield Avenue on Southampton Common with a special notice which made their occupation of the site illegal. The families left the site only to split up and move elsewhere.
A small group of travellers currently occupies the AutoLink car park at Millbrook - next to the Millbrook flyover roundabout. Another group is currently occupying a car park at Second Avenue - also next to the flyover. Another group, also believed to be from the original group of 12 families from the Common has pulled up on land near the playing fields at St Mark's Primary School, Shirley.
The group had originally been moved on when they were evicted from a site at Highfield Road on the Common. But they shifted only 50 yards away to a new patch of land at Highfield Avenue.
Workers from Southampton City Council are clearing up the debris. However, city bosses say they cannot prosecute anyone as it was impossible to identify which individuals were responsible for the mess.
